With Maritzburg United officially relegated from the DStv Premiership, it's no secret their best players will be looking for fresh starts – and one of them is veteran defender Mogamad De Goede. The 30-year-old joined the Team of Choice six months ago after bidding Stellenbosch FC a surprise farewell having captained the team.
The Siya crew has been led to believe his transfer fee was fairly reasonable to make sure the centre back moved on quickly and settled with Maritzburg, who had just announced Fadlu Davids as their coach at the time.
But after finishing second from bottom on the table, forced into the play-offs with Casric Stars and Cape v Town Spurs, the outfit from the Midlands could not retain their topflight status. Spurs were promoted to the elite league.
It's now understood De Goede is open to a move back to the Mother City where there are several options now that three teams from there campaign in the Premier League and will be looking to beef up. De Goede, who signed a three-year deal with Maritzburg in January, is then expected to be one of the players who are sold or offloaded by the club in the coming weeks and his camp could be looking at working on a deal to get him back to his hometown and into the topflight ahead of next season.
One of the reasons the defender signed for the Team of Choice is believed to be the "favourable" deal that addresses his long-term future. Although De Goede remained a regular, it appeared as though he would not agree to the terms that would have been proposed.
Which of the three Cape clubs would be best for De Goede and why?
