Reports in the UK have labelled the future of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as uncertain, and this affects the status of the Dutchman's backroom staff too – including Benni McCarthy.
Ten Hag did seemingly give himself a lifeline by beating Liverpool in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup last weekend to edge closer to winning a trophy this season and setting up a fixture against Coventry City at Wembley next month.
But the general feeling, even among some of the club legends like Gary Neville, is that the former Ajax Amsterdam coach could be on his way out.
McCarthy joined Ten Hag's technical team as one of the first team coaches with a particular focus on guiding the club's forwards having been a lethal attacker in the Premier League himself during his playing days.
According to Siya sources, although the United board has not rubberstamped any decision to release Ten Hag and begin the search for a new manager, McCarthy is understood to be open to the idea of returning to the hot seat.
The former Bafana Bafana goal ace has a track record in the Premier Soccer League where he coached Cape Town City and AmaZulu, two stints that were successful until he returned abroad.
Soccer Laduma informers have indicated that should Ten Hag vacate his post at Old Trafford and his backroom staff be sent packing along with him, then McCarthy would immediately want to jump back in and consider a coaching post where he would call the shots once again.
