Mbesuma 'Must Pull Up His Socks Or Walk'

Mbesuma 'Must Pull Up His Socks Or Walk'

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma is facing uncertainty regarding his future at Sekhukhune United, the Siya crew understands.

The club had brought in the striker's coach at the start of the season and we are still not even halfway through the campaign. Though, Sekhukhune have struggled when it comes to scoring goals so Mbesuma is under pressure.

On the other hand, the poor conversion rate when it comes to scoring is a problem across the board in the PSL so it's not for Mbesuma to uniquely solve in such a short space of time.

Nevertheless, Siya sources close to the club have indicated that Mbesuma could follow head coach Brandon Truter out of the team soon.

The Zambian legend still holds the record for scoring the most goals in a single PSL season during a 16-team league fixture schedule, scoring 25 goals for Chiefs in 2004-05, and he went on to score 35 goals in all competitions (also a record).

"It's a tricky situation for the striker's coach Collins (Mbesuma). He was brought in at the beginning of the season to improve the striker's work rate and scoring rate but as things stand right now the team is not really scoring goals and the club has talked to him about either improving the strikers or him walking," said the Siya source.

"They had a meeting last week just before the FIFA break and they informed Collins (Mbesuma) that he has to pull his socks up and improve the team's scoring. That's when they agreed that if things don't change then they will part ways," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source added that management also told the technical team that the new coach will decide some of the new roles at the club including the striker's coach.

"For now, the only member of the technical team who is safe and can still stay is senior coach MacDonald Makhubedu," said the second Siya source.

"For now we can't say Mbesuma is safe because the results are not good at the moment. But the coach stated that the club will appoint the one who will also help make the final decision. But club management has made it clear that since they are not seeing results from his work they would rather part ways," the source concluded.

Sekhukhune have since confirmed that Lehlohonolo Seema will replace Truter as their head coach.

When called for comment, Sekhukhune United didn't respond while this story was prepared.
