Chiefs At The Crossroads For Bafana Defender?

Chiefs At The Crossroads For Bafana Defender?

Kaizer Chiefs are looking at finally bringing in a Bafana Bafana defender that had once slipped away from their grasp in a previous transfer window, the Siya crew understands.

Chiefs may be looking for a left back to replace Sifiso Hlanti in the long term and Siya sources have indicated that the club could be monitoring Golden Arrows left back Bradley Cross.

Sources at both clubs added that the former Newcastle Under-23 defender has been impressing Amakhosi for some time.

The sources then went on to discuss the factors that could lead to the signing of Cross becoming a reality, or the challenges Chiefs might face to do so.

"It's not the first time the team has inquired about Cross. They did it when he was still at Maritzburg United but they had other options which didn't work out. Then the player joined Golden Arrows," the Siya source stated.

"But when they look at their left back position and the players they have (available), they think they still need him. That's why they are monitoring his progress at Arrows. I am not sure whether they want him for January or for the end of the season but there is huge interest from the club in him," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source stated that Chiefs are looking at the possibility of signing Cross to replace Hlanti when he leaves.

"They are still keeping Happy Mashiane who is also young. And Cross will be like a replacement for Sifiso (Hlanti) which means they would be aiming for the end of the season though there are other options as well," said the second Siya source.

"But they want to be sure and certain that they have a left back ready to take over when Hlanti leaves and now their main focus is in Bradley (Cross). Yes, they have other options as well so it will depend whether the talks go well at the end of the day," the source concluded.

Cross has come through the development ranks at Newcastle United in England and then gained experience at Maritzburg United.

The Siya crew contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
