Richards Bay FC started the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season with encouragement but it ended up being a tough campaign fighting against relegation.
Now that they have avoided relegation, the club wants to build a strong side for next season and their first target could be their former defender, Austin Dube who is currently on the books of Kaizer Chiefs.

Sources in KwaZulu-Natal have informed the Siya crew that the Natal Rich Boyz could be interested in Dube, who is probably no longer wanted by Amakhosi.
Dube was signed by Chiefs from Richards Bay in 2021 and his contract is running until June 2024. However, he has seen very little action since joining the Glamour Boys. So, a move away from Naturena seems likely for next season.
"He was supposed to have been loaned out in January but there was no team that came forward," said the Siya source.
"But, now his former team, Richards Bay are interested in his services. As you know, the season has just ended and the team is looking at who to offload and who to bring in. They have already identified Austin (Dube) as one of the defenders they want to bring in.
"At the moment I am not sure whether they have spoken to Chiefs or to the player himself. But, what I know is that as a team they want to bring him back for next season," the source revealed to the Siya crew.
The 30-year-old, who in the past has played for TS Galaxy and Witbank Spurs, has played only one league game for Amakhosi for the whole season. Dube had faced tough competition from Zitha Kwinika, Siyabonga Ngezana, Edmilson Dove and Njabulo Ngcobo, among others.
This could lead to the club concluding that he's not a vital first team member. In the past Soccer Laduma reported that Chiefs could loan Dube out in the January transfer window. However, that loan didn't materialise.
When contacted for comment, Richards Bay general manager James Dlamini could neither deny nor confirm interest in the player.
"We haven't finalised the issue of the players, my brother, but you know he is our former player and it would not be bad for him to come back home. We are having a meeting about players next week so if we can talk by that time, it will be better," Dlamini told the Siya crew.
