MTN8
Result: Sekhukhune United 1-1 Stellenbosch FC (1-3 aggregate)
Date: 23 August 2025
Venue: New Peter Mokaba Stadium
Stellenbosch came into the clash with a healthy 2-0 lead from the first leg, as coach Steve Barker went with a strong starting line-up following the loss to Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.
Sekhukhune could have reduced the deficit inside the opening five minutes when Keletso Makgalwa raced to the byline before pulling the ball back for Bradley Grobler, who saw his strike crash against the crossbar.
However, any hopes of a Sekhukhune comeback were stifled after 22 minutes when Stellenbosch took the lead through new signing Mthetheleli Mthiyane, who found the back of the net with a lovely strike from distance.
The hosts squandered another opening five minutes before the break when Grobler was slipped through on goal, however the veteran striker could only send his effort straight at goalkeeper Sage Stephens.
The Western Cape outfit made a double change just before the hour mark, as Thato Khiba and Lesiba Nku made way for Genino Palace and Sanele Barns, who was making his 50th appearance for the club.
Sekhukhune did reduce the deficit in the 65th minute when Siphesihle Mkhize raced his way into the six-yard box to turn home a cross from Tsepo Matsimbi, making it 3-1 on aggregate with 25 minutes to play.
The goal, however, proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Stellenbosch were able to see out the rest of the clash to claim the draw on the night and a 3-1 win on aggregate.
Steve Barker's side will now face Pirates in a rematch of last season's final, which the Soweto giants ended up win 3-1.
