Junior Khanye is puzzled by Mahlatse Makudubela's situation, as the winger has struggled to feature regularly and progress in his career.
After leaving Orlando Pirates and joining Highlands Park in November 2018, he struggled for game-time and Makudubela left for Georgia to sign with second division club FC Gagra in an attempt to revive his career.
"I am puzzled as to why Mahlatse Makudubela isn't playing regularly for any team in the PSL. That boy is talented and is good. He is a very good player, I know him from the days of Als Puk Tawana as I trained with them there," Khanye told the Siya crew.
"Makububela is a very gifted player. It's just that coaches tend to like heavily built players and I don't know why. I don't know what their reasons are for that, because the best player in the world right now is the same size as Mahlatse Makudubela, and that's Lionel Messi. Messi is the same size as me, Benedict 'Tso' Vilakazi and Jabu Mahlangu. Yes, Makudubela likes to dribble but the way he does it it's the way it should be done, and that's to eliminate the opponents and to create space for teammates, and not to dribble to showboat. He's very skilful and can score goals," Khanye added.
"I fail to understand why he didn't get the opportunity of playing at Orlando Pirates. I think it's because of being born at a wrong time like Iniesta who was supposed to win the Ballon d'Or but there's Messi and there's Cristiano Ronaldo. You won't say he is a bad player. Mahlatse Makudubela went to Pirates at a time when all that the club had in his position was cream. That's why he struggled to play, otherwise he is among the best we have in country," the Daveyton-born star concluded.
