Schillo started his first game in six weeks and lasted 67 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils.
"For me it was a great feeling, just to be back on the pitch after almost six weeks out," he told Everton TV.
"I didn't expect to start but when you get this opportunity you have to grab it with both hands.
"I'm thankful that the manager gave me the chance again after only a few days of training."
The South African created the opportunity for Leighton Baines' missed penalty in the dying seconds of the first half and praised opposition goalkeeper, David De Gea, who got United the three points with two brilliant saves in the last minutes.
"We were quite unfortunate," he continued.
"In the first half we gave them too much space to control the game and I think second half we really started to go and push.
"We got the goal and were back in the game and I think in the end we were a bit unfortunate that their goalkeeper had a great game, he saved some magnificent saves.
"I think it's sad when you look at our second half performance. We tried everything but like I said their goalkeeper was just amazing today."
Pienaar had been side-lined due to a groin injury which he picked up in the game against Arsenal but is looking forward to regular game time after a couple of 'hard weeks'.
"I have missed playing. It's a difference between running in training and playing. Now I need more games under my belt and just stay focussed and stay fit," he added.
"The last couple of weeks have been hard, but I stayed positive and looking forward to getting more game."
