However, Maema has now secured a move to Tanzanian Premier League outfit Simba SC.
Maema becomes the second former Sundowns player to make the switch to Simba following Rushine De Reuck's arrival last month.
The attacking midfielder notched up 120 appearances at Sundowns, where he won four league titles, the Nedbank Cup and the African Football League.
Maema will be playing under South African tactician Fadlu Davids.
