Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Sandile Ndlovu has revealed how Bongokuhle Hlongwane ended up at Maritzburg United, with his recent move to the United States.
Hlongwane completed a three-year deal with Major League Soccer club, Minnesota United, and Ndlovu, who discovered the talented striker, spoke about his first encounter with him.
"The first time I saw him, I was amazed by his talent. It was in SANEF my team, that used to be Phenduka in 2017 or 2018 if I'm not mistaken. I decided to train with him and during those times we partnered with him, I rememeber in one game I scored two and he scored one," Ndlovu told the Siya crew.
Hlongwane has spoke highly of Sandile Ndlovu in the media, and the role in his life.
"He wanted to join AmaZulu FC but I advised him to stay at Maritzburg and prepare well for professional level. I coached him from there.
"I respect this guy and I'm glad he has opened up about our relationship. I fought with people for him. I'm really proud of him. I'm so happy that he is living his dream, Hlongwane is a special talent.
"He went to Maritzburg United through trials and were supposed to join their ABC team but ended up joining the MDC team and senior side because his gift, top striker. The PSL really lost a talent there but it is a blessing for South African football."
Ndlovu expects Saniza to move onto bigger leagues and has advised him to remain humble and hungry.
"He must continue to respect himself. I told him to always put the family first, and I expect him to move to other big leagues."
