Montpellier HSC Sack Coach, What Does It Mean For Keagan Dolly?

Keagan Dolly's new club Montpellier HSC have sacked their coach just four days after the South African's transfer was announced, but what does it mean for the former Mamelodi Sundowns star?

The 24-year-old was officially unveiled last week Friday, ending the transfer saga with his former club. However, on the same day Montpellier – without Dolly in the squad – lost 5-1 to Olympique Marseille.

It was the club's seventh defeat in their last 10 games and has left the 2012 Ligue 1 champions just one point above the relegation zone, and as a consequence the club sacked their coach Frederic Hantz on Monday.

"Montpellier Hérault Sport Club is aware of the gravity of the club's current sporting situation, as well as the foreseeable consequences. This gravity has forced our hand, given our concern for the players," read on the club's official website.

"As a consequence, we are announcing that head coach Frédéric Hantz and his assistant Arnaud Cormier have been relieved of their duties and will be paid out of their contracts.

"We have asked former MHSC players Jean-Louis Gasset and Ghislain Printant, who are both well qualified, to run the rule over our sporting situation in order to determine an urgent solution."

But what does this mean for the Bafana Bafana star, who just completed his €1.7 million transfer?

Often it's the coaches who want a certain player with cases of players being frozen out when the boss gets sacked.

However, this doesn't appear to be on the cards for Dolly because of the following three simple reasons:

1) Dolly was bought amid the ongoing crisis. Even before Dolly's transfer was announced on Friday, Montpellier had already lost six out of their previous nine games in all competitions. Surely the club was aware of the coaches' uncertain future, but still went ahead to buy Dolly.

2) The South African's deal is among the most expensive buys in Montpellier history. The Ligue 1 club surely wouldn't have splashed the cash and remained calm during the transfer saga with Masandawana, if there wasn't a long-term vision for Dolly to help the side - irrespective of who is the coach.

3) Another factor speaking for the fact that Dolly fans shouldn't be worried about his future is his four-and-a-half  year contract. The club wouldn't have given a new signing such a long contract, if he wasn't bought to impress in the long run.

Montpellier will surely hope that the South African can be part of the match day squad soon and potentially help the club out of their struggles.

With a clash against Ligue 1 leaders Monaco on the cards in two weeks from now, Montpellier will hope to get back to winning ways when they host Bastia, who sit one point below them on log, this coming weekend.
