Sangweni: Mofokeng Is Not Ready For Europe

Orlando Pirates midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng has quickly risen to prominence since being promoted to the senior team last season, earning accolades such as the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Year.

Despite these achievements and calls for his move to Europe, former Pirates defender and captain Siyabonga Sangweni believes that Mofokeng should remain in South Africa to further his development.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Sangweni expressed his views on the timing of Mofokeng's potential move abroad.

"I know many people are saying he should go to Europe now which is good but I think he should stay for at least another season or two. By that time he will be ready for any challenge coming his way. He should cement his place first both at Pirates and Bafana Bafana then he can move to Europe. He should show that he is the boss. He should own the team and keep focused. He should not relax, show the desire to want more. You know everything is his now and as long as he can remain humble be will go far," Sangweni told the Siya crew.

The legend also highlighted the importance of gaining more experience at international level with Bafana Bafana.

"He is ready for the big stage. For Bafana Bafana. You know if you can play in the Soweto derby at that young age and give your best that means you are ready for the national team. And the more games he plays for the national team the better he will be prepared for the move to Europe. But it should not be now. Give him time to grow and understand the game. Then when he is ready he will make an impact in Europe," Sangweni observed.

Mofokeng's rapid ascent in South African football has sparked discussions about his future and the optimal timing for a move to a European club. Sangweni's advice underscores the value of patience and strategic career planning, suggesting that further development within the local league and national team could provide Mofokeng with the foundation needed to succeed on the international stage.

As Mofokeng continues to develop his skills and showcase his talent, the decision on when to make the leap to Europe remains a pivotal one.
