The change on the future of Evidence Makgopa at Orlando Pirates has been explained as improvement with the striker's situation in the team evident in recent weeks.
Earlier in the season, the beanpole marksman had been linked with an exit from Houghton, with indications from sources at the time that a loan move was being bandied about for the forward.
At the time, the 23-year-old had been struggling for a regular run as the likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Kermit Erasmus and Relebohile Mofokeng had been playing ahead of him in theside's attack.
However, the former Baroka FC man regained his confidence and was resolute in his fight for a place in the team having fully recovered from injury. The Ga-Mampa-born star grabbed his opportunity when a space opened in the starting line-up in coach Jose Riveiro's team after Lepasa was ruled out due to an injury last month.
According to sources, the Bafana Bafana striker now has a chance to improve his chances of a longer stay with the Soweto giants if he continues with his progress.
Makgopa has started in four back-to-back league matches for Bucs to add to his two substitute appearances from earlier in the campaign, scoring one goal. In total, he has 10 appearances across all competitions and has bagged two assists.
"Evidence Makgopa has done very well in the past couple of weeks, and he has impressed the coach with his work-rate. Expect the boy to play more regularly in the coming matches and there isn't any talk of him possibly leaving at this stage," revealed a source.
"An advantage of Makgopa is that he is young, and he's got a long way to go in the game and a bright future. The fans might be on his case by putting him under pressure in some matches, but the boy has a long way to go and a lot to learn, and the coach is patient with him," concluded the source.
