Despite doing well in the CAF Confederation Cup to qualify for the quarter-finals on the weekend, Orlando Pirates seem to have done little to convince one of the club's former players who is disappointed in their season.
With the league title no longer within their reach as Mamelodi Sundowns stand a good chance of defending the trophy once again, former Pirates defender Tonic Chabalala is disappointed with how the team's season has gone so far.
The Buccaneers are 4th on the DStv Premiership log after winning only eight from the 23 games they have played so far and have drawn a whopping 11.
The team's next match will be in the Confederation Cup against Al-Ittihad on April 03 but Chabalala seems to have lost hope that Bucs will have anything to smile about from this season.
"To be honest, I don't see us (Pirates) going anywhere and I see these remaining matches of the season that we are playing in the league as friendlies. I thought the team would fight to get something in the Nedbank Cup, but we lost against Marumo Gallants. Pirates has looked like any ordinary team in recent times, and I think that is because of chopping and changing in team selections. It will always be very difficult for any team to get results when the line-ups are changed all the time and there will be no consistency," said Chabalala.
"With Sundowns, you can see that the team is going somewhere, and they know what they are doing. That's one team that is doing things the right way and they are a well-oiled machine. Sundowns coaches make changes to the line-ups only when it is necessary to do so, and they don't chop and change. I don't see Pirates winning the trophy in Africa. It's so frustrating," added the former centre-back.
