Who Threw The Best Shots Between Pitso Mosimane And Benni McCarthy?

Who Threw The Best Shots Between Pitso Mosimane And Benni McCarthy?

With the quarterfinal showdown scheduled to be underway on Sunday, April 01, Soccer Laduma takes a look at what both Pitso Mosimane and Benni McCarthy say about each other leading up to the game.

Like all rivalry in the Premier Soccer League, there are always shots being fired by either side, before the talking on the field.

Between Mosimane and McCarthy, there seemed to have been a big debate over which team was inherited and whose side saw more success under the mentorship of certain coaches.

First, Mosimane seemed to have thrown the first shot when he said that the success of Cape Town City is owed to the work of Muhsin Ertugral, who took Mpumalanga Black Aces to fourth place on the league standings; a team that the Sundowns head coach believes Eric Tinkler inherited in the 2016/17 season.

"They have an experienced team, a team that was really well-built by Muhsin, Muhsin built a good team there, I think they finished third before or fourth, and Eric inherited the team and didn't do much, and of course the same, Benni inherited the team and dint touch many things. Sometimes we forget to pay tribute to Muhsin," Mosimane told the media.

However, this did not go over McCarthy's head, as the young head coach had quite a bit to say in response to Mosimae.

"I am new, so the club was one year old when I arrived here, so whatever success they had, had nothing to do with me…"

"Come Sunday, that's when I talk, I think I am a little bit more experienced, I am not that naïve in the game to get bothered about mind games and whose success. I think Sundowns was successful before Pitso, I am just saying," McCarthy responded.

However, this was all said ahead of tomorrow's anticipated domestic cup clash and it remains to be seen which head coach will walk away with the bragging rights and a spot in the semi-finals.
