Bucs, who drew 2-2 with Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night, will meet the Students at Bidvest Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the two teams set to meet again in the second leg next Saturday, one would think that Pirates would settle for a draw in the first leg and then kill the game off at Orlando Stadium. Vermezovic, however, insists that Pirates will go for a win in the first leg.
"We won't be conservative because of the two legs. I never play for a draw. I always play to win," Vermezovic told the official PSL twitter account.
"We will play every game like a final. It's important to score in the 1st leg. It is 180 minutes of football, so the game won't be won over first leg. It will be very interesting," added the Pirates mentor.
Meanwhile, Vermezovic said Pirates will work on defending set pieces prior to the Wits, saying the Students are dangerous on set pieces.
"We conceded two goals from set pieces yesterday (Wednesday). Wits are also strong in set pieces," commented Vermezovic.
