A spot in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup will be at stake when Cape Town City visit Royal AM on Saturday afternoon at Chatsworth Stadium.
Teams: Royal AM v Cape Town City
Date: 12 February 2022
Venue: Chatsworth Stadium
The Nedbank Cup has been an elusive trophy for the Citizens, who bowed out in the round of 16 last year after losing 2-1 to eventual finalists Chippa United in extra-time.
City had a busy January transfer window, with a couple of key departures, including the transfer of striker Fagrie Lakay to Egyptian side Pyramids, Abbubaker Mobara joined AmaZulu and Abdul Ajagun joined Sudanese side Al Hilal.
The Citizens, as a result, bolstered the side with the signings of Venezuelan Darwin Gonzalez, Cameroonian Brice Ambina, Gambian Kajally Drammeh and Mogamat May.
Similarly, Thwihli Thwahla made drastic changes in the transfer window, releasing no less than 15 players, including Siphelele Luthuli and Ronald Pfumbidzai, who were both signed by Chippa United while Lucky Baloyi was transferred to Maritzburg United.
In so far as incoming transfers are concerned, Royal have added the likes of former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Ricardo Nascimento, Thabo Matlaba from Swallows and three players from TS Galaxy, goalkeeper Marlon Heugh, Mxolisi Macuphu and Shaun Mogaila.
The KwaZulu-Natal side will be playing in the tournament for the first time as a Premiership side after purchasing the status of Bloemfontein Celtic at the beginning of the season.
