Lebogang Maboe's yellow card from the Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns match has been given a thumbs up by a former Premier Soccer League referee.
Arguments erupted following a 32nd minute refereeing decision after Maboe was only given a yellow card for what looked like a professional foul on Luvuyo Memela.

Memela appeared to be heading towards Downs goalkeeper Denis Onyango's goals when Maboe came from behind and made contact with him, which resulted in the Pirates winger losing his balance and went down.
While some in the football fraternity believe that a red card would have been a right decision from match referee Abongile Tom, former PSL referee Faiek Daniels believes that the match official was correct with his decision of awarding only a yellow card and the resultant free-kick.
"Look, there are two things to be considered. The rules have changed slightly. When a player is in a goal-scoring position but not a goal-scoring opportunity, that is, if he is running towards goals and the goalkeeper is still there when the foul is committed, the referee will only penalise you with a yellow card," said Daniels.

The Buccaneers and the Brazilians drew 0-0, a result which has seen coach Pitso Mosimane's side remain at the top of the Absa Premiership log, while coach Milutin Sredojevic and his side have moved back up to second place on the standings.
"When a player is brought down and is in a goal-scoring opportunity, it's called denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and a red card is awarded," added Daniels.
"When an opportunity to score the goal isn't a clear-cut opportunity the referee won't penalise with a red card," concluded the ex-match official.
