Modubi: Sundowns' Costa Is 'A Complete Player'

Belgian-based South African Masilo Modubi has given insight into Mamelodi Sundowns' latest signing Lucas Ribeiro Costa, revealing his strongest qualities.

The DStv Premiership champions secured Costa as their third signing ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, sealing the deal after bringing in Lesiba Nku and Junior Mendieta from Marumo Gallants and Stellenbosch FC respectively.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is a left footed attacker who will add to Sundowns' quality in the final third, as they look to win a seventh consecutive title and finally get their hands on a second CAF Champions League title.

Modubi, a former South African international midfielder who is now working as a coach in Belgium, has watched Costa in action and said one thing Sundowns supporters can look forward to is seeing the Brazilian playing in different attacking positions, because of how versatile he is.

"The guy is good. I've seen him play a few times and I think people have been raving about his qualities as well. He can play everywhere, in midfield, as a 10, out wide and striker as well. He is strong, fast and is good with one-on-ones. He is more like a complete player, I don't want to lie," Modubi said to the Siya crew.

"If he plays in a team that has mobile possession, I think most people will see his qualities. I think in a team like Sundowns that likes having the ball, I think most people will appreciate his qualities even more. I guess if it was any other team with less qualities, then I would have said something different. But he is a player who works hard and sees the game very well. He can play in small spaces as well. You can tell that he is a smart player and he has a good left foot. He can curl the ball, he can shoot straight and can pass the ball. I think he is an exciting player for Sundowns."
