BREAKING: Sundowns Striker Joins MLS Side

Bafana Bafana striker Cassius Mailula has completed a move to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.

The Brazilians announced earlier this week that they had received an enquiry from a North American side about the 22-year-old.

Mailula enjoyed a breakout season with the Brazilians after scoring 15 goals across all competitions and also winning the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season award.

Mailula has put pen-to-paper on a deal with the Canadian-based side that will run until 2027.

The Bafana striker will not be on his own in the American league, as he set to go a head-to-head with countrymen Njabulo Blom, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Katlego Ntsabeleng and most recently Olwethu Makhanya, who joined Philadelphia Union earlier this month.

"We are very excited to welcome Cassius to our club and the city," Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez said, as per the club's official website.

"He is a player that will bring a different dimension to our play on the pitch with his versatility, dynamic movement, and finishing ability with both feet. He will also provide us with a new young profile off the pitch, with his humility, grit, and ambition to reach the highest levels possible. We look forward to working with Cassius and are happy to have him in the TFC family."

Sundowns also sent their farewell to the young striker ahead of his new journey.

"The entire Yellow Nation sends its love and well wishes to our prolific young prodigy, Cassius Mailula!," Sundowns tweeted.

"May your star continue to shine brightly with Toronto FC."
