Mokwena Reveals Process Of Profiling Surprise Sundowns Signing

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed how he spent time talking to Lesiba Nku during the off-season as a way of profiling the player before making a final decision to sign him.

Over the years, Sundowns have found a way of profiling players to ensure whoever they sign is able to fit in both on and off the field.

Nku was a surprise signing from Marumo Gallants, but he appears to be settling in quite well to life at Chloorkop. He bagged a brace in the side's 4-0 victory over Golden Arrows on Tuesday in Atteridgeville and walked away with the man of the match award.

"There is a lot of work behind (the scenes). First, it's what we want to try to achieve in terms of how we want to play. Then we've got to see if there are certain situations from a tactical perspective that we are able to develop.

"And then the human qualities. I spent a lot of time in the off-season speaking to him on the phone, trying to know him and getting people to tell me about him and getting people who played with him to tell me what type of player and human being he is, which is very important," Mokwena said to the Siya crew.

"The feeling I got was that we could be aggressive (in signing him). There were other teams that even moved more aggressively than us, to try to get him. But because I think we had developed a very good relationship, we were able to bring him this side.

"I think there is still a lot more to be seen. There is a lot of work behind the scenes and I have to thank the club, not only for the support in agreeing that this is the right player, but in working hard behind the scenes to secure him early."
