Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Phelelani Mpangase has come out to defend Mothobi Mvala.
Mvala has been one of the regulars in the national team under Hugo Broos and some feel he is not good enough to represent the Bafana Bafana compared to his club teammates Andile Jali and Rivaldo Coetzee.
Mpangase believes the criticism is unfair as he breakdowns Mvala's role and what makes him a regular in the national team.
"I fully disagree with those who criticize Mthobi Mvala, it is only that we analyse football indifferently. I know Rivaldo Coetzee and Andile Jali are currently the best, playing very well at Mamelodi Sundowns," Mpangase told the Siya crew.
"We must understand that the national team coach philosophy is totally different to what Sundowns have, so we need to respect that.
"Mvala is one of the most strong defensive midfielders in the league, aerial and on the ground too, one on one situations and physically strong. He respects the position he plays in and always protects the defence. The main aim in his role is to protect the defence and penetrate those passes to the strikers.
"Mvala is given a task to protect and he has done extremely well, hence he is being trusted with Teboho Mokoena in the Bafana Bafana set up, they compliment each other."
The former Downs defender says those critics must not be given attention because for now Mvala is delivering.
"Those who criticize Mvala, let them be and he will continue to shine in both Sundowns and Bafana Bafana. He understands his role as a player and is doing well."
