Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has detailed how Kaizer Chiefs won the race for in-demand defender Rushwin Dortley.

Chiefs' long-term courting of Dortley finally paid off as Spurs announced last week that the 22-year-old will be continuing his development at Amakhosi after the two clubs reached an agreement for the player, for a fee believed to be upwards of R6 million.
The move came as somewhat of a surprise considering that Chiefs leapfrogged both SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC to land the Bafana Bafana defender's signature.
In a conversation with the Siya crew, the Spurs boss revealed the reason behind Dortley's move as he became the first big-name exit from the club who were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of the 2023/24 season.
"Rushwin's move made sense for all parties involved," Efstathiou told the Siya crew.
"It made financial sense for us, it made financial sense for Chiefs and it was mutually beneficial for the player's future as well. We don't just sell players to the highest bidders where we don't feel they can make an impact and waste away on the bench.
"We are fully confident that Rushwin can grow at Chiefs and that he can help their cause in the long run, considering that he was signed at the tender age of 22. We have full confidence that he can go on and obtain legendary status at the club," he continued.
Dortley's prowess shone brightly last season, despite his side's unfortunate relegation. He made 32 appearances in all competitions for the club.
