Reports coming out of Poland suggest that Kaizer Chiefs have launched a bid of around R1.6 million to sign South African youth international, Thabo Cele.
Cele was heavily linked with a move to Amakhosi last year following a stellar Olympic Games display for the SA under-23 team. Cele was a free agent at the time and despite Chiefs showing interest, they eventually lost out to RKS Radomiak, with the Soweto giants not taking their interest further at the time.
Now, in a shock turn of events, Chiefs have reignited their interest in the KZN Academy product and have launched a €100 000 (±R1.67m) bid for the 25-year-old.
According to Polish journalist Szymon Janczyk, Radomiak are keen on holding onto Cele as he is seen as an integral part of coach Mariusz Lewandowski's plans for next season.
But indications are that the 25-year-old has set his sights on becoming a Bafana Bafana regular and this could possibly be achieved by plying his trade in a league where the national team coach can have a closer look at him - something that is not happening in Poland at the moment.
There were doubts cast over Cele's future earlier in the campaign with the player seemingly struggling to adjust to the Polish Ekstraklasa and finding game-time hard to come by.
However, under Lewandowski, Cele has found a new lease on life and had a strong finish to the 2021/22 season.
Chiefs have already signed Zitha Macheke, Ashley Du Preez and Siyethemba Sithebe and now it remains to be seen whether they step up their interest in Cele, having missed out on signing the talented midfielder as a free agent last year.
