Kaizer Chiefs defender Bradley Cross has revealed how supporter criticism last season ultimately strengthened his character and improved his performances, saying the tough feedback motivated him to work harder.
The left-back faced scrutiny from sections of the Amakhosi faithful during the previous campaign but has bounced back strongly this season as Chiefs maintain their perfect start with two wins and two clean sheets.

Speaking to the media during a press conference at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, Johannesburg ahead of their Betway Premiership encounter against Richards Bay on Tuesday at FNB Stadium, Cross reflected on how he handled the difficult period.
The former Newcastle United youth player said that although there was criticism, he simply put his head down, continued working hard, and those experiences made him stronger.
“I think you have to go through those times to make you stronger as a person and to not lose yourself in those situations. But I just put my head down and kept on working harder. It is normal to receive constructive criticism. I think it helps me as a player to improve. To help the team to go forward, I need to improve whether I make mistakes or not," Cross told journalists.
Cross also spoke about how the demanding preseason camp helped forge team unity between returning and new players.

“The pre-season was tough and a good way for us to come together and see how we will work through the season. It has been a good start for us with two wins. I think we just have to stay grounded because there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. So, we just have to take it game by game," Cross observed.
Cross's resilient mindset and improved performances this season will be crucial as Chiefs navigate a demanding campaign that includes CAF Confederation Cup competition. With the left-back position previously under scrutiny, his ability to handle pressure and convert criticism into motivation could prove vital as Amakhosi pursue their goal of competing for silverware across multiple competitions.
