3 Out Of 3: Sirino Extends Chiefs' Wining Run

Kaizer Chiefs extended their winning start to the Betway Premiership season with a 1-0 win over Richards Bay FC on Tuesday evening.

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Richards Bay

Date: 18 August 2025

Venue: FNB Stadium

Siphesihle Ndlovu was rewarded with his first start for Chiefs after scoring the winner against Polokwane City last week, while the foreign signings were still not available to make their debuts.

The Soweto giants dominated possession in the early stages of the first half, but they were restricted to efforts from distance as Glody Lilepo went closest testing the gloves of Salim Magoola in the opening 15 minutes.

Richards Bay, meanwhile, were quite happy to sit back and frustrate the Amakhosi attackers for most of the first half, while providing a bit of a threat on the counter-attack.

Chiefs were forced into a change in the final ten minutes of the first half, as Aden McCarthy's evening was cut short due to an injury and replaced by Zitha Kwinika, who was making his first appearance of the season.

The Soweto giants responded with a double change at the start of the second half as Gaston Sirino and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo replaced Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Ndlovu to add more numbers in the attack against a stubborn Richards Bay defence.

The changes paid off as Chiefs took the lead just before the break when Duba raced clear down the right before picking out Sirino, who sent a superb first-time finish into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Chiefs continued to dominate after taking the lead as Ngcobo, Sirino and Shabalala saw a lot of the ball in the opposition half, but they were let down by their decision-making in the final third.

In the end, the one goal was enough to seal maximum points for the Soweto giants, who also secure a third successive clean sheet.
