Note To Nabi: If Chiefs Fans Don't Listen...

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi could be on the right track with his player management skills, after former coach Stuart Baxter's comments.

Nabi's managerial skills were tested early in the season after Ranga Chivaviro received backlash and booing from a section of Chiefs supporters after missing some glaring chances against SuperSport United in the Carling Knockout round of 16.

The Tunisian tactician did not bow down to the pressure of the whistles from the stands, which demanded the former Marumo Gallants striker to be substituted.

Such confidence in the 31-year-old forward paid off after he eventually scored in a 4-0 win over SuperSport.

After the encounter, Nabi stressed how important it was to show belief and confidence to Chivaviro, who otherwise reacted with a shut-your-mouth sign to the fans after scoring.

Former Amakhosi coach Baxter was faced with a similar challenge with Kingston Nkhatha during his first spell at the club and says he did everything to fight for the Zimbabwean striker, after at some point he confronted the supporters.

"Chiefs, massive club, they've got fantastic supporters but as it is at big clubs, passionate clubs, certain elements go crazy, they lose where we are, that's what happens," Baxter said on Mike Morton Talks Football YouTube Channel.

"I don't think the people that were getting into Kingston were a true reflection of Kaizer Chiefs. What I was trying to say is, as a club we can't do that. Not because of Kingston. Kingston worked his socks off. I loved him as a player. The job that he did, he was really a top class player for us.

"Maybe some of the crowd don't understand that and I don't expect them to, because they don't work with him everything. What I can do is put myself in between. If they don't listen, it's about protecting Kingston as much as you can and say, 'Listen mate, you do it for me, don't worry about anything else. If I get on your case, worry', that sort of a thing," the former Bafana Bafana coach added.

Chivaviro has not scored again for the Glamour Boys since that booing incident.
