Soccer Laduma previously reported that Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson is in the running for the permanent post as head coach. The Siya crew now looks at five reasons that could make Amakhosi keep Johnson for the foreseeable future.
1. Giving players fair chances
Since taking over, Johnson has given players who were previously out of favour a chance to stake their claim in the line-up, without sidelining the previous regular players.
The 65-year-old has integrated almost all players well and over the weekend gave goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma his first start of the season while he also gave the benefit of the doubt to Jasond Gonzalez and expressed his belief in the Colombian striker.

2. Style of play
To resonate with supporters, how the team plays is important. Johnson has shown commitment to play 'The Chiefs way'.
After the FIFA break, Johnson continued to show trust in Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and 'Mshini' impressed in the playmaker role against Moroka Swallows, spraying those defence-splitting passes that are synonymous with how Amakhosi attacking midfielders should play.
3. Crisis management
The Glamour Boys had to deal with reports of disciplinary issues of some players within the camp and Johnson handled the situation well, insisting that the dressing room is strong.
The former SuperSport United tactician expressed belief in the "backbone of Chiefs' management", suggesting that it's not a matter they can't handle.
4. PSL Experience
What Johnson shares in common with former Amakhosi coach Molefi Ntseki is that they were both initially appointed in the role as Head of Technical, before assuming roles as senior team coaches.
However, Johnson has vast experience in the PSL and better understands the culture of South African and foreign players and how to blend them together.
5. AFCON Break
Chiefs are left with only three league games before they close the year against Polokwane City, Richards Bay and Sekhukhune United.
Should the Glamour Boys do well, Johnson's advantage could be the continuity factor and the former Al Ahly assistant coach will have plenty of time before the PSL resumes in mid February 2024, to work on his coaching methods with the players and that could see Johnson remain in his position at least until the end of the season.
