There are promising signs that Kaizer Chiefs are slowly improving under interim coach Cavin Johnson. So, now Soccer Laduma looks at five problems Johnson has to solve to successfully navigate past a turbulent period.
1. Leadership
Official club captain Itumeleng Khune was reportedly suspended pending a disciplinary hearing after he arrived at training allegedly having drunk alcohol.
Johnson has to find a way to harmonise the group and choose a leader or leaders who can bring everyone together, particularly with even more allegations surrounding the club lately.

2. Discipline
Unfortunately the Glamour Boys' management has had to deal with more players breaking the club's code of conduct after Mduduzi Mdantsane was also reported to have been suspended after drinking alcohol on duty.
3. Strikers
The striker problem has continued at Chiefs despite signing Ranga Chivaviro and Jasond Gonzalez. Chivaviro has only scored once while Gonzalez is yet to score.
The last striker to score double figure goals at the club is former forward Samir Nurkovic with 13 goals in the 2019/20 season when they lost the league title on the final matchday.
4. Centre-back pairing
Chiefs have not had a consistent centre-back pairing from the start of the season, with Given Msimango and Njabulo Ngcobo alternating to partner Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.
Amakhosi kept a clean-sheet for the first time in nine games after edging Moroka Swallows 1-0 last week, using a different centre-back pairing after the injury of Ditlhokwe.
5. Number one goalkeeper
All conquering teams in world football have a consistent number one shot-stopper. The Glamour Boys have been alternating between Brandon Petersen and Khune this season.
Bruce Bvuma finally got his chance against Swallows after 13 months without playing. A big test for Johnson is whether he will now keep Bvuma in the starting line-up.
