Let's take a closer look...

Katsande Boss Ya Mboka Part 1

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United midfielder Willard Katsande recently got candid about his fashion venture Boss Ya Mboka (BYM).

Birthed in 2021, Boss Ya Mboka is a clothing brand that prides itself on affordability and quality. The brand's items range from streetwear staples like hoodies, jackets, and graphic t-shirts to formal wear garments like blazers.

DStv Premiership stars Phillip Ndlondlo and Linda Mntambo have supported the brand in the past, as well as former Kaizer Chiefs cult hero Knowledge Musona.

When asked about what inspired him to start BYM, Katsande surprisingly pointed out that he started it off as a joke due to the social media attention he was getting for his unique style.

"Boss Ya Mboka, I started it as a joke, whereby I was wearing the baggy stuff and post it on social media and people would laugh. I was accumulating a huge following because I wanted to find a way to get into the space of Fashion," he says.

"And fashion, I started liking it when I was young, my dad used to dress nice. Also, as a professional footballer you need to dress nice to impact and not to impress so that a young boy whose nine or ten, who wants to be a professional footballer, looks at me and looks at a good role model who dresses nice," he added.

Katsande also noticed during his playing days that people complimented his style which helped him realise that he has a passion for fashion.

The retired star was also thinking about life after football when he started his Boss Ya Mboka journey, which he runs with his wife, Bonga Katsande who holds a qualification in Fashion and Design.

Katsande revealed that him and his wife are always looking for ways to be innovative with the brand's design framework. And over the last couple months, they've been on quite a roll, producing fresh and interesting work for BYM.

"We've been producing some good stuff, nice t-shirts with nice designs. Very stylish polo-necks, blazers, suites, puffy jackets, jogger pants and we have nice hoodies for this winter. So it's very interesting and we are happy with what we have done and the reception we are getting," says Katsande.

The co-owner of BYM recognises that his customers are the most important aspect of the brand and is pleased that there haven't been complaints over the quality of the garments.

"Shout out to all Boss Ya Mboka family, I don't say they are customers, they are family. So, whenever anybody purchases Boss Ya Mboka merch automatically gets a citizenship to Mbokaland.

"The last two months have been good and you can see the things we are producing, we are not stopping to produce because we want everyone to have options at Boss Ya Mboka.

"The reception we are getting is overwhelming and it doesn't allow us to relax. We always in the kitchen trying to cook something good," says Katsande.
