The story

Stellies boss Steve Barker is cooking up a storm on the pitch, winning their first five games of the season in both MTN8 and CAF Confederations Cup competitions.

Barker's troops have been scoring freely with 13 goals so far and conceding just one goal in their wins over TS Galaxy, Nsingizini Hotspurs, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

In the kitchen, coach Barker is certainly no slouch as he was tasked with baking chocolate chip cookies on the first episode of Stellies' new web-series cooking show, "Taste the Love... with Rama and Stellenbosch FC."

The former University of Pretoria and AmaZulu boss was joined the show's host, Jacaranda FM's Mack Rapapali to test his culinary skills by following an iconic recipe.

Choc-chipped cookies a close to Steve Barker's heart, with the 56-year-old mentioning that the ones his mother baked were the best he's ever had.

Barker also spoke glowingly about his late uncle Clive Barker and how their relationship progressed over the course of his life. He expressed his admiration for the 1996 AFCON-winning coach, and revealed some the lessons he took from him as a coach:

"Once I started playing [professionally], he was still coaching. It was always cool to catch up with him. Whenever I saw him, he would always encourage me to keep pushing hard and do what I'm doing.

"When I became a coach, that probably the time where I had the most opportunity to share ideas [with him]. I just looked up to him in terms of how well he treated his players, like a father figure, he always supported them.

"So, that part of him I always took to my coaching career. Taking care of those in your command, that was one of the main lessons I learnt from him as a coach, let your players be freer," said Barker, while getting started on baking the cookies.
