What's the story?

Yet another group of DStv Premiership players have graduated from the PSL Player Transition Programme, a collaborative initiative between the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and MultiChoice.

Several players have shared their reflections from the course, that's designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to carve out successful futures for themselves beyond football.

Let's take a closer look at what the players had to say about the course...

Graduates reflect on PSL Transition Programme

26 DStv Premiership stars achieved a significant milestone in their academic careers after celebrating their graduation from the PSL Player Transition Programme this week.

A number of these graduates showed on social media and in interviews with the media just how crucial this short course is for players, with AmaZulu's Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Orlando Pirates' Relebohile Mofokeng reflecting on what they learnt from it:

"We've done a lot of modules, one of them was Personal Finance and we've done Project Management, we've done social media and the use of it, we tapped into AI [Artificial Intelligence], we've done so many things," said Rama, reflecting further on the financial education he received:

"I'll touch of the money module, which for me was very important. As you said, we're notorious for being reckless with our money. I think this was the most important class for me. Just to have insight on how money really works. Like; how can you use interest to make more money, how can we invest shares — these are the things we've learnt," said the veteran defender to iDiski Times' Lorenz  Köhler.

Here's Mofokeng's thoughts on the programme:

"It was a learning process I can say, because learning from Thulani Hlatshwayo and Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and them telling you where they come from and what they've done to play for this long, yeah it was a good learning experience," said the youngster, who added:

"I think it [The Player Transition Programme] helps young players because we still have more time open our businesses and know what to do with our money.

"That's what this programme is about, it tries to create the right path for us. Things like knowing what to do after football, taking your mind out of football and thinking broadly. It helps us a lot because we cannot make the same mistakes as others, we have to learn from those mistakes," Mofokeng tells the media.

As stated by the Multichoice website, the footballers graduate with a qualification from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), the educational partner for the PSL Player Transition Programme.

Their curriculum is quite comprehensive and covers business fundamentals, information technology, financial management, and leadership skills.

The Programme also equips the ballers with valuable life skills, educational opportunities, and career guidance that extend beyond their athletic abilities.

It helps them broaden their knowledge and nurture personal growth. "Footballers are poised to transition into roles such as coaches, analysts, administrators, or ambassadors for the sport, including venturing into business," mentions Multichoice.
