The story
Stellenbosch Football Club has bid farewell to Iqraam Rayners following Mamelodi Sundowns activating the buy-out clause in his contract.
The 28-year-old leaves Stellenbosch as the club's all-time leading goalscorer, with 68 goals in 135 appearances over two stints in the Cape Winelands.
During his recent spell at the club, Rayners walked away with the 2023 Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and received nominations for both DStv Premiership Footballer of the Season and Players' Player of the Season, as well as the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament award last season.
With 32 goals for Stellies since rejoining them in 2023, Rayners not only became hot property with SA's big guns chasing his signature, but also drew the attention of Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos.
His 15 goals in the league last season certified him as one of the PSL's most lethal finishers and Downs fans will be foaming at the mouth of the prospect of Rayners and Shalulile leading the goalscoring charts again.
