The story

Veteran PSL coach, Gavin Hunt has made a bold claim about one of his former clubs, Chippa United.

The 60-year-old, who coached the Chilli Boys following an underwhelming stint with the Kaizer Chiefs, mentioned that Gqeberha-based club has bags of potential to become one of SA football's heavyweights.

Hunt recently featured on the All Rounders SA podcast to chat to host Nono Pongolo about his extensive football career, sharing insight of the wealth of experience he gained over the years from coaching Bidvest Wits, Chiefs, Swallows and Matsatsantsa.

In his chat with Pongolo, Hunt passionately explained why he thinks Chippa United has the most potential of any football club in the country:

"That [club] for me, has got the most potential of any football club in South Africa. Chippa has got one of the best stadiums in the country, fantastic training ground, he's got an area of capture of talent from, I don't know, nobody is there [Eastern Cape]. There's no club's there, he's the only team there. That club, has got the most potential. He [Chippa Mpengesi] gets grants, money from the municipality... free stadium, this and that, he's got everything there. Why is it not working? I know the reason, but yeah, I could never say," says Hunt.

The Spartans boss spent just five months with Chippa United, prematurely parting ways with the outfit in 2021, after the four-time league winning coach won just one of his ten matches.
