The story
Bafana Bafana left-back Fawaaz Basadien's wonder strike in September's Cape Derby between his club Stellenbosch and Cape Town City was awarded the Goal of the Month accolade by the PSL for September/October.
The PSL announced on Monday that Basadien's effort from nearly 60 metres out during Stellies 3-0 win over City triumphed over screamers scored by Chippa United's Andile Jali and Orlando Pirates youngster, Mohau Nkota.
When the Stellies baller beat a hapless Darren Keet, who was caught off his line for the goal, it was quickly touted as a Goal of the Season contender by supporters online.
Is the goal up there with Siphiwe Tshabalala's World Cup goal and Hlompho Kekana's stunning long-rangers for Downs that earned both midfielders Puskás Award nods? It's debatable but not a reach to place Basadien's goal in the bracket.
The 2023 prize went to Brazilian defensive midfielder, Guilherme Madruga, who scored an earth-shattering overhead kick from just short of 25 metres out for Botafogo against Novorizontino during a Serie B game in June last year.
