The story
Former SuperSport United skipper and three-time league winner with the club, Bongani Khumalo, took to his Instagram to pay tribute to a team close to his heart.
This comes after speculation that the club has been bought by a Bloemfontein businessperson, with reports indicating that SuperSport's status could be sold to revive Bloem Celtic.
As mentioned by the Siya Crew, if the deal does go through, a consortium buying the Spartans could rename the club Celtic United.
It is estimated that R50 million is the cost to acquire the status of Matsatsantsa, who had a difficult 2024/25 season, narrowly avoiding play-off relegation on the final day of the Betway Premiership campaign.
Khumalo, who made 159 appearances for the Tshwane side, took a trip down memory lane in posting a host of throwbacks on IG from his days at the club, before and after his move to Tottenham Hotspur.
"What a ride, God is great!" and "Goodbye to my club" were just some of the words shared by Khumalo on his series of IG stories.
Before posting his throwback snaps from his playing days at Matsatsantsa, Khumalo penned this message:
"Thank you for giving me so much! A Dream! From a ball boy to a league winner, to the youngest league-winning captain, to a World Cup scorer, to a dream overseas move.
"All of this happened in three years, age of 20 to 23. Thank you to everyone who was part of the club," wrote Khumalo.
