Orlando Pirates legend John "Dungi" Moeti believes that the Buccaneers carry the hope of South Africans when it comes to the CAF intercontinental club tournaments such as the Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Pirates playing with more hunger
Moeti's former club is one of two South African clubs that will be taking a lead in the second leg of their respective competition with the other being Mamelodi Sundowns.
Pirates and Bidvest Wits were both in the Confederation Cup, however Wits have since been dumped out of the tournament, whilst Kaizer Chiefs and reigning PSL Champions Sundowns are both contesting in the Champions League, however Chiefs will be heading in their second leg tie against Raja Casablanca with a 1-0 deficit.
Speaking to the Siya crew on why he believes Pirates are looking the only SA based club to clinch another CAF title Dungi simply attributed Bucs chances to their achievement of 1995.
"The players who won the Champions League set the precedent, and now you can see the current players are trying to do the same," Dungi tells the crew.
"In my view Pirates are the only team that takes CAF competitions seriously. The other teams have always been reluctant to compete in Africa."
"It's and achievement the club wants to achieve again and that's why when they compete they go all out. This is why I believe Pirates will be the first team to win a second CAF title before other teams win it", concluded the former midfielder.
