Former Orlando Pirates defender and 1995 CAF Champions League winner, Edward "Magents" Motale has expressed confidence in Pirates' mental strength ahead of their first away leg match against URA in the CAF Confederation Cup.
CAF Hopes on Pirates shoulders
The Bucs legend revealed to the Siya crew that competing in a CAF tournament is more about mental strength and overcoming the mind game other clubs in Africa employ to put off their opposition.
"In my experience CAF is all about overcoming mind games. This is a tactic that clubs in other parts of Africa have been using to edge out the visiting teams," explained Motale.
"From the time you arrive at the airport the mind games begin. Sometimes when you get there, you are greeted by soldiers with guns, you are made to wait two hours for a bus to take you to the hotel and by the time you play the game you want nothing to do with that place and all you are thinking about is just going back home.
"This happened to us in 1995 as well.
"A lot of our players battle when they are faced with these situations and succumb to the pressure, " he further added.
Magents further referenced Pirates' trip to the DRC to face TP Mazembe in 2013.
"You saw what happened in that game. Pirates need to draw from that experience in their away matches in this tournament," concluded the former Bucs skipper.
