CAF Confederation Cup Report: Al-Nasr v Bidvest Wits 12 January 2020

CAF Confederation Cup Report: Al-Nasr v Bidvest Wits 12 January 2020

Bidvest Wits remain without a win in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages following a 2-1 loss to Al-Nasr on Sunday evening.

Joseh Douhadji was handed a rare start in the Clever Boys defence although Gavin Hunt went with a relatively strong line-up that included Thabang Monare, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Deon Hotto.

The Clever Boys entered the encounter with a disappointing record in the group, after failing to score in their previous three encounters while a spot in the next round is still seemingly in sight.

Despite bringing in the the likes of Hotto, Sameegh Doutie, Mxolisi Macuphu to bolster the attack, the South African outfit were unable to find a breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes.

There was a goal from a Wits player shortly after the halftime break, but it was in the wrong net as Dvukumanja turned the ball into his own net to hand Al-Nasr the lead.

The hosts managed to bag a second goal after the hour mark, with Muhanad Alaeeli firing past Brandon Peterson to pile more misery on the Clever Boys.

Wits did pull a goal back with 15 minutes remaining through second-half substitute Haashim Domingo, but it proved to nothing more than a consolation as Al-Nasr held on for three points.
