Orlando Pirates' CAF Champions League Opponents Reveal Their Target

Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates' CAF Champions League opponents have revealed their target for the continental competition, while also disputing reports linking their coach with an exit.

Having received much needed morale booster with their 4-1 win over AmaZulu last Saturday, the Buccaneers will have another Absa Premiership match against Golden Arrows next Saturday, before having to go back to the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday to face Bloemfontein Celtic in what will be their third league match in 11 days.

Zimbabwe's FC Platinum will then be the next opponents for the Soweto giants in their Champions League return leg match in Orlando on March 08.

The Buccaneers drew 0-0 with the Zimbabwean outfit in their first leg match in Bulawayo in January. A win for Bucs would put them on eight points and with a chance to proceed to the next round of the competition from one round of fixtures remaining, depending on the result of the other match between Group B leaders Esperance de Tunis and Horoya AC.

Meanwhile, Platinum have confirmed that they have already achieved their target for the continental competition with reaching the group stages.

"It is good to win matches, however, our target, if you remember, was to reach the group stages, which we did. We will push to ensure positive results in the coming fixtures. We have learnt many lessons in the Champions League," club spokesperson Chido Chizondo told Zimbabwean media.

The club has also rubbished recent reports linking their coach – former Ajax Cape Town defender Norman Mapeza – with exit.

"Very safe. I think this (rumour) happens every year," Chizondo is quoted on Zimbabwe's NewsDay.
