Mamelodi Sundowns Vs AS Vita Club, The Club Who Eliminated The Champs

Mamelodi Sundowns Vs AS Vita Club, The Club Who Eliminated The Champs

Mamelodi Sundowns are currently in the Republic of Congo where they are set to lock horns with the club who was responsible for the Brazilians' elimination and reinstatement into the CAF Champions League last year.

AS Vita Club, Masandawana's familiar rivals, dumped Head Coach Pitso Mosimane's side out of the Champions League last year, April, after the Congolese side progressed through to the group stages with an away goal advantage.

The score was locked at 2-2 after the second leg of the second round of the competition, however AS Vita managed to get their all-important goal on South African soil.

However, AS Vita's Champions League campaign came to an end in May 2016, after the federation confirmed the disqualification of the Congolese side.

AS Vita's disqualification saw Sundowns reinstated into the CAF Champions League competition and it proved to be a golden opportunity for Ka Bo Yellow that year, as they made their way to be crowned champions of the African continent for the first time in the club's history.

Now, the two sides will once again lock horns in the Champions League competition, on Wednesday, May 24, in the second encounter of Sundowns' group stage fixtures.

Masandawana have been placed in group C of the competition, alongside Saint George SA, Esperance Tunis and AS Vita.

The Tshwane giants managed just one point in their first group stage encounter earlier this month, May, after their 0-0 score-line against Saint George at the Lucas Moripe Stadium and will be confident to get their campaign back on track by claiming three points against AS Vita on Wednesday.
