The Brazilians will attempt to defend their Champions League title after winning it for the first time last year. In their provisional squad for this year's continental competition, Downs registered 25 players, which included Dolly, among others.
Those 25 players were registered in December, and Dolly was still with Sundowns at the time and was yet to finalise a move to Montpellier in France.
Following an impressive 2016, during which he contributed massively to Masandawana's triumphs in the Absa Premiership and CAF Champions League, the player attracted interest from overseas.
However, Sundowns were reluctant to part ways with him as he had been one of the important players for Pitso Mosimane's team and was still in their plans for the upcoming campaign.
Prior to Dolly's departure from Chloorkop, there was a dispute between the attacker's camp and Sundowns. But after the player's buyout clause was activated and all transfer-related processes followed, the Bafana Bafana international's move to France was concluded, which left Sundowns with no choice but to continue without him in their plans.

The last day of player registration for this season's Champions League was 15 January, and at the time Dolly was yet to leave Sundowns. As reported by the Siya crew, the player's move to Montpellier was only completed on 24 January.
