CAF Super Cup

Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 TP Mazembe

Date: 18 February 2017

Venue: Loftus Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns have added the CAF Super Cup title to their trophy cabinet, after defeating TP Mazembe 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld.

The visitors should have gone ahead after nine minutes when Malango, who was free on goal, struck the upright, while Denis Onyano pushed the rebound onto the post.

Despite the shaky start, Pitso Mosmane's charges enjoyed most of the possession in the opening 20 minutes although the chances were lacking.

The hosts had carved out an opening after 30 minutes when Kham Billiat was played through on goal, howeve Gbohou rushed off his line to deny Zimbabwean.

The Champions League winner looked threatening in the closing stages, as Anthony Laffor and Khama Billiat went close with strikes fro distance.

The visitors opted for a change after 58 minutes as Tresor Mputu replaced Meschack Elia as they pushed for an opening goal.

Gbohouo came to Mazembe's rescue in the 70th minute, as he produced a fine save to keep out Percy Tau's low strike from distance.

Mosimane's charges continued to push for opening goal and they should have gone ahead in the 80th minute, but Laffor's poor finishing left the hosts down, as he fired straight at Gbohouo.

Sundowns were awarded a penalty after 81 minute when Hlompho Kekana was brought down. Ricardo Nascimento stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

Mosimane threw on Bangaly Soumahoro in the closing stages, as Sundowns saw out the remaining minutes to claim the win and the cup.

Here's how they lined up:

Sundowns: Onyango, Langerman, Arendse, Nascimento, Morena, Mabunda, Kekana, Zwane (Vilakazi 90+3'), Laffor (Soumahoro 86'), Billiat (Ngcongca 90+2'), Tau.

Mazembe: Gbohouo, Issama, Kimwaki, Coulibaly, Kasusula, Sinkala, Adjei, Kalaba (Traore 80'), Asante, Malango, Elia (Mputu 58').
