CAF Champions League Report: Mamelodi Sundowns v KCCA 10 March 2017

Goals from Bangaly Soumahoro and Ricardo Nascimento helped Mamelodi Sundowns claim a 2-1 win over Ugandan side, KCCA in the first leg of their CAF Champions League first round tie.

The hosts broke the deadlock inside the opening two minutes, as Soumahoro Bangaly headed home Tebogo Langerman's cross from a tight angle.

Sundowns were then awarded a penalty in the fifth minute when Thapelo Morena was brought down in the box. Ricardo Nascimento stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

After a slow start to the encounter, KCCA manage to settle down after 30 minutes and saw a lot of the ball, but they struggled to carve out clear-cut chances.

Sundowns struggled to get the ball of the Ugandans for the rest of the half, while they gave up possession quite easily whenever they did get the ball.

Nonetheless, the Brazilians held on to their two-goal as they headed into the break, although Wayne Sandilands did produce a fine save on the stroke of haltime to deny the visitors  a goal.

Sundowns started enjoying more the ball of the ball in the opening stages of the second half, but found it difficult to carve open the visitors.

KCCA pulled a goal back in the 69th minute when a slip from Tebogo Langerman allowed Serunkuuma to side-foot into the bottom corner for a crucial away goal.

The hosts should have restored their two-goal lead in the 73rd minute, but Percy Tau placed his effort well wide from six-yards out.

Mosimane threw on Anthony Laffor for Tiyani Mabunda in the 84th minute, as the champions looked to restore their two-goal advantage.

Sundowns threw numbers forward in the closing stages for a third goal, but the KCCA defence stood firm as the score remained 2-1 at the full time whistle.
