CAF Champions League Report: Bidvest Wits v PampleMousses SC 10 February 2018

CAF Champions League

Result: Bidvest Wits 2-0 PampleMousses SC

Date: 10 February 2018

Venue: Bidvest Stadium

Bidvest Wits registered a 2-0 win over PampleMousses SC in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.

Vincent Pule should have found the opener in the second minute after being picked out by Thabang Monare at the back post but his header went over the crossbar.

Pule was unlucky in the 17th minute to see his strike rattle the crossbar after being setup again by Monare.

Kobamelo Kodisang sent Gavin Hunt's men ahead in the 23rd minute with a header following a good attacking move from the home side, 1-0.

In the 37th minute, Eleazar Rodgers made it 2-0 with a close range finish after being sent through clear on goal by Pule with a killer pass.

Rodgers almost got his braceon the stroke of halftime after Keegan Ritchie delivered a telling cross into the area but his header could not find the target.

Kodisang also had a chance to get his brace on the hour-mark after getting on the end of Pule's cross, but his strike effort was off the mark.

It was a one-way traffic for the Clever Boys with 20 minuets remaining on the clock as Daylon Claasen replaced the injured Monare.

Pule thought he had found the third goal for the hosts 15 minutes before time but his strike was ruled out for offside.

The home side were reduced to 10 men in the last four minutes as Ritchie was red-carded for retaliation after being elbowed in the face.

Pamplemousses also went down to 10 men after Remy Fabrice received a second yellow card moments after being involved in an incident with Richie.

That proved to be the final piece of action in the half as Wits ran out 2-0 winners on the night.

Here's how they lined up:

Wits: Peters, Ritchie Frosler, Mkhwanazi, Gordinho, Pule, Ntshangase, Scott, Monare, Kodisang, Rodgers.   Subs: Josephs, Gyimah, Hlatshwayo, Claasen, Majoro.
