Bidvest Wits Have Secured A CAF CL Spot, Kaizer Chiefs Can't

Kaizer Chiefs are the only top five side without a CAF inter-club competition to play for next season, with Bidvest Wits having already sealed their spot in the Champions League.

The top two sides in the Absa Premiership will secure a place in the 2018 Champions League competition, while third place will go on to play in the Confederation Cup alongside the Nedbank Cup winner.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City have already ensured that they will be playing continental football next year, although it remains to be seen which team will be playing in which competition.

A Sundowns victory this weekend would guarantee them a spot in the 2018 edition of the CL, but they also have a chance of reaching it should they manage to retain the trophy this year.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates will battle it out for the second CC position when they lock horns in the Nedbank final in Durban next month, with the victor joining third-place in the second-tier continental tournament.

Chiefs, who are currently fifth, said on their website today that a fourth-place finish would see them qualify for next season's CC competition*, however, that is not the case and for the second year in a row, they will be without competitive games outside South Africa.

*The club have since edited their web piece.
