Following their exploits in the previous Champions League campaign – coach Pitso Mosimane and the team won the continental competition last year – the Chloorkop outfit will embark on another journey in search of glory in Africa again.
The Brazilians will host Ugandan side Kampala Capital City FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in the first leg of their first round Champions League tie on Friday.
In preparing for their title defence as the African champions, Mosimane and his technical team went for 24 of the best players at the club and registered them in their provisional squad for the competition.
The players were registered in December. However, the club had an option of adding six other players to the list by January to reach the required maximum number, which is 30.
At the time of registering the players, Downs had Keagan Dolly on the list to make it 25 players. However, Dolly has since moved on and joined Montpellier in France.
It is not yet clear if Sundowns have added more players to the list as the registration deadline for the Champions League was 15 January.
