Banyana needed to win or draw to keep their hopes of progressing out of the group stage alive, but a first half goal from Li Yang proved to be enough for the Chinese to pick up three points and knock the South African debutants out.
Swart was solid though, pulling off to memorable saves in the second half to keep her side in it, but she insists that she was just doing her job.
Speaking in the mixed zone after the game, the Golden Stars keeper said, "We push each other really hard at training, and you have to stay ready… It's unfortunate Andile got hurt in training, and the coach asked me to step up - I did my job, I did what I needed to do, and our position is really competitive…"
Now it's time to turn their heads to arguably their biggest task yet, Germany, who are ranked as world number two and have six points from six so far at this year's WWC.
The shot-stopper knows it won't be easy, but thinks they have a lot to play for still, "I think we have a lot to play for - we have a lot of pride to play for… We have to hold our heads up high and not just think about being out. We have to play for ourselves, we have to fight for this last 90 minutes… This might not be our last World Cup, everyone is going to remember us now.
"Our objective obviously was to win, that didn't happen - but we've left out names out here, everyone is going to remember Banyana Banyana."

Meanwhile, on the topic of some fan expectations, Swart said she hopes some people now look at them differently, saying, "We had support, but there's always a couple that have negativity… But we didn't come here to make up numbers, we fought in both games for 90 minutes - they can look at us now with different eyes because we didn't just come in here and give it away."
It remains to be seen whether Swart kill keep her place between the sticks against Germany on Monday, but she'll be working hard in training over the weekend to prove to Desiree Ellis that she deserves to be there once again.
When Mamelodi Sundowns' Andile Dlamini got injured at the eleventh hour on the eve of Banyana Banyana's crucial Women's World Cup game with China, Kaylin Swart had to step up.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is no stranger to international tournaments, having played in the 2010 U17 Women's World Cup, but last night she made her debut at the senior World Cup in front of 20,000 people at Parc des Princes in Paris, France.
