Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk shared her thoughts on VAR, after two penalty decisions were given against South Africa at the weekend.
Banyana suffered a 3-1 loss to Spain in their opening FIFA Women's World Cup encounter in France, this after taking the lead, but then conceding two penalties and going down to 10 players.

"It is a tough loss for us, obviously there is some positive moments that came from the game, scoring our first ever World Cup goal was a fantastic feeling and then we knew Spain would be really tough in the second half coming with guns blazing," Van Wyk told SAFA.
"I feel when VAR came out, I was hesitant about what I felt about it but I also felt that it was good in some way because teams can't cheat and get away with things anymore, it is part of football and you have to play by the rules.
"And then you have a situation like we were in, where it can always turn against you. But I guess, still with VAR, unclear decisions could be made, but I say to my teammates if that was in our favour we would obviously look at VAR and say it was amazing so we cant hate it because it was tables against us because in the next game it could be for us. It is fair in some ways to an extent, but it is there to help the referees because they can't get everything right. But I feel like we were hard done by," she added.
