Banyana Banyana's Desiree Ellis On Thembi Kgatlana's Goal

Banyana Banyana's Desiree Ellis On Thembi Kgatlana's Goal

Thembi Kgatlana scored South Africa's very first FIFA Women's World Cup goal on Saturday evening in Spain and will remember it for the rest of her career, despite Banyana Banyana not getting the result.

Kgatlana opened up the scoring in Banyana's first group stage encounter at the weekend, giving South Africa the lead, however, after two penalty decisions going against them, Spain came back to win 3-1.

"Thembi is a special player, you know what to expect and sometimes you cant stop it. It is a similar fantastic goal that she scored against Nigeria in the women's championships. If anyone was going to score a goal today, it was going to be Thembi," Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis told SAFA.

"She has come here and set herself some goals, she could have a second or third but that is how the game goes. She has unbelievable talent and belief in her ability. When she is on the ball, you know something is coming and sometimes you can't stop it," she added.
